For a fact, my family does not want me to go as far as California, not even across the ocean to live in japan. There not being racist, but, I feel hurt that I cant go and fallow my dream of drawling there or going to Tokyo university. Thats why I might as well give up on what I want to go for. Mostly everyone thinks I'm obsessed with the Japaneses, but from what other people do, I'm so far from being obsessed its not funny. This is how obsessed people are:
- You listen to the Anime World Order podcast devoutly and can understand everything they say.
- When you've seen almost everything on crunchyroll.
- You know what Sigikki is.
- You can tell the difference between a Post-WW2 Tezuka manga and Post Drifting Life manga.
- You know what gekiga is. - when you try to imitate those smiles they do in anime
-when you actually have crushes on anime characters and won't even look at the people around you
- when more than half of your music list consists of anime songs from random shows
- when you start talking like those people from anime when u like every anime you watch
when u try to imitate the voices of your fav characters
when u watch them without bathroom or food breaks
when all u watch is anime
when u have every thing in your room anime(sheets, wallpaper etc.)
when u get mad when someone calls it a cartoon
when u wish u was in the anime world of you fav animes/manga
when u memorize lines.
when your bookshelf is filled mostly with animes.

I want to know people's opinions who are now living in Japan about these so-called Japanophiles that supposedly love all things Japanese, but never set foot in Japan (or only visited for a week or two). Some have fetishes about Japanese women. Others are obsessed with manga or anime. They think they love Japan because of these things. Many also want to come and live in Japan based on these “obsessions”. Honestly, I think these people are creepy and extremely out of touch with the reality about Japanese culture and people. LOL. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
We all have a jolly good laugh about the suburban US teenager who's into anime dresses in manga character costumes, buys meaningless kanji t-shirts and speaks out-of-a-kindergarten-textbook Japanese. but has never been to Japan
But on the flip side of the coin, we have; the Japanese teenager who's into hip-hop, murders the lyrics at karaoke with his grade school English, dresses in clothes 5 sizes too big. Says yeah man! and constantly with a bad accent, drives a Chevy impala low rider, but has never been to the US. if you want to know the japan , i recommend the book "36 view of mt. Fuji "by Cathy Davidson, this book is based on her experience when she had the life in the japan in 80's as exchange professor. it is very good to deal with the japan .
i want to mention one thing.
in the books , you said that the westerner guy have fetishes about Japanese women. to tell the truth , the Japanese woman has so much authority over the husband as the wife,
after the marriage on the westerners obsessed with fetishes about Japanese women, she wears pants. he complains "oh it's nightmare. i have get the allowance from my wife, ". as it's very common among the Japanese family , she just practice's her way. when the family buy the expensive electric appliance , the automobile, or even the house, the choice is generally in the wife's hand. if it seems that that husband have the dominance in the family, he is controlled behind his back by the wife

-Japan is a modern nation with MODERN people. There are no more samurai. Not everyone is into anime. There are people in Japan like you and me.
-There are people in Japan who couldn't give a rat's butt about their own culture but wish to be AMERICAN. That's right. They will ask you how to swear in English and get them to teach you freestyle.
I think having a fascination with Japanese tradition is good and it helps to open up people's eyes. For once, western people are finally learning to distinguish Chinese and Japanese people! And loving anime is also great. But I wouldn't go as far as to watch freaking hentai and drool over...god knows what. I mean don't people realize that watching hentai in Australia is just as creepy as watching hentai in Japan? Hentai of...I dunno...little kids? These people are shunned in Japan also. There is a thing called human decency and THE LAW. I personally would like to understand what REALLY goes in Japan and that is exactly why I started posting here. I've been given an insight into the country and wish to pay a visit and see what it's REALLY about. And I am adamant that I will find a nation with similar values, similar interests and a similar modern taken on life to that of Australia. Yes, I will find an Americanized pop culture land of superficial teenagers and grumpy old folk. WHAT'S NEW? That's every modern nation if you ask me. I mean what do people expect to find over there? Samurai walking the streets? Ninja jumping on roofs? I personally enjoy Japanese culture and western culture, but to me pop culture and modern styles are all the same. I’ll listen to a song if it sounds good, American or Japanese or whatever.

i <3 Japan ^^
